Today in this guest post Aaron Abber of FullTiltBlogging.com finally gave me that answer, read it carefully because it’s value is at least $19,95 :)

Conventional wisdom, while common, is not always wise. Such is the case with setting a product price point.

You are about to learn why you should use a precise price point rather than a round price point when setting the price on a product you wish to sell–and it doesn’t matter whether your product you are selling costs a few bucks or a few hundred thousand.

It will put you in the driver’s seat.

“The Scientific Research”

In the February Psychological Science Journal, marketing professors Chris Janiszewski and Dan Uy of the University of Florida detailed a series of experiments they conducted to find out whether we are really “fooled” into buying when the price is $19.95 versus $20.00.

“People Weren’t Being ‘Fooled’”

They found that people weren’t truly being fooled–they didn’t think the $19.95 price tag was far less than the $20.00, but they typically saw the PRODUCT as being more valuable when priced at $19.95.

Otherwise: The $20.00 price point caused prospects to think maybe the product was actually worth much less–maybe $15.00–but the $19.95 price point caused prospects to see the product as being priced closer to its real value.

“People Think in ‘Price Increments’”

What their experiments confirmed was that people think in price increments when determining the actual value of a product compared to its price point.

When we are given a “round” price point we tend to use larger price increments to compare it with our perceived “true” value. Given a price of $100.00, we tend to look at whether it is “really” worth $75, $80 or $90 dollars.

When we are given a “precise” price point we tend to use smaller increments to compare it with our perceived “true” value. Given a price of $97.00 we subconsciously think in terms of it being within a few dollars–maybe $93 or $95.

“What This Means to You”

If you have a product, price it with a precise price point. Don’t try to sell at $50, try it at $47 or $49.95. If you have a free download, give it a precise value: “A One Year Subscription is Valued at $39.95.”

Psychologically your prospects will perceive a higher value for your offerings. Try it, it will make you money.

Unfortunately (for that guy) Garry sposts people who want to fake their own readership from a distance of a mile. That blog had a faked Feedburner counter, that means that the number on the counter, which shows how many people is subscribed to the feed via Feedburner, isn’t pulling his value from the Feedburner server but it’s a static image. An alternative way to fake the counter is to crack the code of the chiklet and to pull the number of the counter of an other feed (which has far more readers of yours).

There is a simple and cool online tool which lets you immediately check how many Feedburner subscribers a feed has. The tool is called Feed Compare and all you have to do is to type into the form the FeedBurner feed name (e.g. successfull-blogging or full FeedBurner Feed URL, e.g. http://feeds.feedburner.com/successfull-blogging) not the url of the blog.

This tool is also interesting in the case you want to compare the trends of the feedsubcriptions of up to 4 feeds.

This is the result of the comparison of the feedsubscriptions in the last 12 months of Problogger (red), John Chow (blu) and Shoemoney (green).

Today, Ask.com, Google, Microsoft Live Search and Yahoo! together are announcing support of autodiscovery of Sitemaps. The new open-format autodiscovery allows webmasters to specify the location of their Sitemaps within their robots.txt file, eliminating the need to submit sitemaps to each search engine separately. It works !

Prior to this announcement I had setup a couple of new blogs. I added the xml sitemap autodiscovery option to the robots.txt file and it appears that it helped get these sites listed in the search engines. Up until this point I had no problems getting indexed accordingly with Google, the other 3 were very inconsistent. I have seen an increase in crawling and traffic from ASK, MS and Yahoo for each site that I have included the autodiscovery tag.

Long pages can be a little annoying if there is not enough content to keep it flowing down the page.

I also made sure the RSS is set to Full Text and not summary. The Feed is set to 10 posts.

I have been using this product since it’s first release and there just isn’t an easier or more effective way to create a sitemap.
